While there, I observed children being introduced to all sorts of insects. It was very inspiring to watch them learn about the world around them. They had been coming to the forest for a while to exercise and spend time together. I loved their realness and how picturesque they were. I love this linocut, and the way that it looks as though the giant is watching over the family. I came across this family on my way to a naturalist training and I had to snap a quick photo. It was their first time at the forest and they came just to see the giants. When I told them that I was the artist in Residence and explained what I was there to do, they were so excited to be apart of my project. I hope that they come across this image one day and it reminds them of their time in the forest. This linocut depicts a child experiencing a natural space for the first time. Inspired by a friend's daughter's first time at Huber's Orchard, I wanted to simplify the background as much as possible so that it could represent almost any part of the state. I wasn't introduced to natural until later in life and I didn't go to Huber's for the first time until a few years ago.
