A Louisville native, Norman Spencer is known for his printmaking. His work focuses on themes such as identity, community, and the human relationship to our surroundings. His artwork is in private collections around the country. These four new works were made in response to 2020. He writes, "The prints have to do with my own feelings of being trapped during the pandemic, my processing of the most recent rounds of protests for racial and social justice, as well as my fears surrounding the looming election. "I was recently awarded a "Black Artist Grant" from Funds for the Arts in order to create a series of linocuts showcasing the Black experience in the Kentucky wilderness. The grant has given me the opportunity to work on a larger scale and has given me the financial freedom to create more personal work as well as more experimental work. This is evident in the pieces in this show, which are in contrast to the more colorful work that I am known for." above: Keith Stone's United We Stand, part of How Are You Doing
